Conor McNicholas moves to contract publishing

In September last year I wrote a column for Press Gazette quoting Conor McNicholas on his move to Top Gear. “If you want to be successful, you have to find the opportunities in any situation. There are opportunities in a downturn if you can make it work for you,” he said.

Predictably – in that I had cited it as an example of a successful move – McNicholas parted company with Top Gear a couple of months ago. However, it is also clear that he has been reading my media recruiting column. In November 2009, I wrote another column on the attractions of contract publishing. I quoted Sara Cremer, Editorial Director of Redwood: “There is often more freedom here than on the newsstand, where people get very nervous about trying new things. Content agencies are driving some of the best creative work in the country at the moment.”

So what is McNicholas up to now? Editor-in-Chief for the Barclays Brand at – you guessed it – Redwood. I call it one-all.
